Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Top tier guild renowned for knowing fights inside and out, and pouring through combat logs and spreadsheets in order to understand the minutiae and thus maximise their ability to beat encounters, suffers sudden and convenient oversight of exploit which happens to make the encounter dramatically easier, and is shocked to be punished for it.

Guild claims wide-eyed angelic innocence, guild’s friends agree.

The problem is that it’s not always obvious what’s a legitimate tactic and what’s a bug. This is something that LotRO had to deal with with the “hard modes”. There were a lot of tactics that were pretty much exploits, but since players had to figure out the fights to qualify for hard mode, they tried all sorts of different things. They eventually fixed some of the issues, but I think they took a reasonable approach and understood that some bugs are going to show up.

Obviously, there’s more sides to the story here. And, Ensidia gets enough hate directed at it for being a high end guild anyway. So, the truth will probably never be all that clear, unfortunately.

At any rate, I think developers need to be careful about what is an exploit and what is a legitimate tactic. Especially with new content, any problems are going to come to the forefront when there’s intense competition.
