Kiasacast Episode 1

In what we believe is an unprecedented move, we at Killed in a Smiling Accident thought it might be interesting to try and send our voices through the internet in what we’re calling a “podcast”, combining the everyday words of “cast” from “broadcast” with “pod” from “podophyllin”, a brown bitter gum extracted from the rootstalk of the May apple (Podophyllum peltatum), so, encoded using fruit extract, it’s episode one of the Kiasacast!

In this episode, we take a look back at the events of 2008, or “flip back through the blog and talk about a few posts”. It’s our first time, as it were, so it’s a little shaky, but we get into the swing of things.

Subjects covered include:

  • Hellgate
  • Subscription numbers
  • The recurring cycles of MMOG blogging
  • Lack of giant robot MMOGs
  • Bonekickers!
  • The reason Age of Conan and Warhammer haven’t done too well
  • Guitar Heroism

Intro music: Galaforce for the BBC B microcomputer
Outro music: Galaforce remix by Heartcore

We’re not sure if it’ll become a regular thing, if nothing else watch (or indeed listen) out for a review of 2009 in a year or so!

You boys are a lot braver than I would be! I listened! I don’t normally listen to podcasts, but this way I got to be homesick for rain and landscapes that are green in winter and not sere and brown like some dried-out crust of bread.

    Nicely done.

I’m not sure it was bravery as much as temporary insanity. Still, it was a fun experience putting it all together if nothing else.

Thanks for listening! If we ever do another one we’ll be sure to put more rain effects on to inspire extra nostalgia.

    Thanks very much!

I took your advice and picked up LotRO again. So far I’ve been having a lot of fun with it (great tip on ‘globallff’, by the way), so a few posts should be forthcoming, and perhaps a little about that in the next episode.

    3 thumbs up from me.

But I must point out that God himself do call these little indulgences pod-grams, not -casts hmm..?

Ta muchly, and an excellent point; I believe His Most Worshipfulness prefers to combine “pod” with the “gram” from “Tetragrammaton”, but I think it would be a bit presumptuous of us to do that…

nice podcast. listened to it, had to ‘rewind’ from time to time, because there was so much stuff in it… most probably because of the recapping of 2008… and my mind played it’s own commentary on top of yours!

Cheers, have a great 2009 and keep ‘casting!

Hopefully it wasn’t because we were rambling too much. This ‘cast was indeed a bit ‘content heavy’ shall we say, which was mainly so that we had a definite range of topics to get our teeth into so that we wouldn’t freeze too much as we got used to talking TO THE WHOLE WORLD ARRGGGH NO PRESSURE!!!1

We were genuinely already thinking of having a single topic 15-20min format if we do one in the future; it seems like a good format that would be a bit lighter than the more professional ‘casts out there, and it would also save me having to spend four hours straight, until 2am, editing it.

Thanks for the comment and feedback, it’s greatly appreciated!

…besides a couple of British gentlemen who declare Stephen Fry as God cannot be completely rotten…

Jolly good! Very generously approved, indeed!
